IntroDUCTION to practical aesthetics ACTING TECHNIQUE

Practical Aesthetics is both an acting technique and a philosophy. Simple, honest and straightforward, the technique de-mystifies the process of acting, giving actors an empowering set of analytical and physical tools. The actor learns to analyze scenes for tangible, physically-playable objectives, and to use his or her imagination, will, voice, body and sense of play to bring the character and the story to life. The philosophy teaches self-reliance, professional work habits, and mutual support and respect between artists.

The Introduction to Practical Aesthetics is a professional level, part-time intensive program in this highly effective acting technique, also called the Atlantic Technique.

Through scene study, you will learn the skills of Script Analysis, Performance Technique, and Moment to Moment work, ultimately bringing all these skills together in performance of the material .  Actors work on a variety of scenes from plays and films, both contemporary and classic. The technique enables the actor to break down a script or set of audition sides, resulting in strong and compelling performance choices. Applied habitually, Practical Aesthetics can inspire some of most compelling performances imaginable – committed, truthful, and totally spontaneous.

This professional-level course is ideal for busy actors who would like a solid base from which to begin their creative work on any role. It is the only program of its kind in Sydney, and is suitable for actors and serious aspiring actors with or without prior training.  It provides a thorough yet concise introduction to Practical Aesthetics and is taught by Melissa Bruder, co-author of A Practical Handbook for the Actor and founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company/Acting School, NYC.

Usual Format:

Saturdays, 12pm - 6pm AND Thursdays, 7pm - 9pm Attendance is compulsory at ALL 15 sessions.
